boost-teeth-whitening-Many factors can lead to your teeth not being as white as you would like. Coffee stains, tobacco, medication, certain foods, and just the normal course of aging can cause your teeth to have a yellow or gray appearance. This can make you feel less confident in your smile. For some people, over-the-counter or professional teeth whitening may be an option. Gentle Breeze Dental does not recommend teeth whitening for children under age 16, people with sensitive teeth or gums, pregnant women, and those with allergies to carbamide or hydrogen peroxide. These are the two main ingredients used for teeth whitening.

Exploring Your Options for Teeth Whitening

You have three options when it comes to brightening the shade of your teeth. The first one is to purchase a teeth whitening kit in a drugstore and use it at home. However, we recommend you proceed with caution when exercising this option. The ingredients in these kits are not as strong as what you would receive from a professional dentist. That means you have to use more of the product over a longer period of time to achieve the same results. This can eventually cause long-term damage to your teeth. If you do buy an over-the-counter kit, be sure to consult with a teeth whitening dentist Port St Lucie before using it.

Your second option is to receive a take-home kit from us here at Gentle Breeze Dental in Port St Lucie. It is similar to what you buy at the store but contains stronger chemicals. You also have the assurance of knowing we have reviewed it to ensure that it offers good results. We’ll go over the instructions with you before sending you on your way. You may wish to schedule a follow-up appointment just to make sure that you’re satisfied with the results. If not, we can help you figure out what may be causing the disappointing results and give you another kit to take home.

The final option is to complete the procedure in our office. This takes approximately 45 minutes and will brighten your teeth between 5 and 10 shades. First, our dental assistant covers your gums and lips to prevent whitening gel from spilling onto them. Next, we point a special light at your teeth to help the whitening process go faster. This part of the process takes around 15 minutes. We then apply gel a final time and repeat the process.

A Note About Fillings, Crowns, and Other Dental Restorations

If you have any type of dental restoration in your mouth, the carbamide and hydrogen peroxide will not get them any whiter. This is true no matter how you choose to complete the teeth whitening procedure. You may not be a good candidate if you have already lost several of your natural teeth.
